|Creativity and Design Indulgence|
Every year I spend hours at Design Days Dubai and this year, I look forward to the fair once again, which is hosted at Dubai Design District, home for the region’s design and creative industries.
Naturally I usually head to the Audi stand at Design Days to see their latest innovations and learn about their award. The Audi Innovation Award theme for 2016 was ‘Alternative’ where the objective for designers is to offer concepts that integrate existing solutions into new uses, ranging from lifestyle, healthcare, mobility, education and urban public spaces. The competition seeks to empower regional designers while archiving intellectual progress in the region.
This year, Van Cleef & Arpels has collaborated with Sèvres in creating its limited editions and will reveal exquisite creations. The Maison will show two necklaces, which combines porcelain and jewelry craftsmanships. Admirers of beauty can visit the exhibition to discover the union of two decorative talents.
Also exciting this year is the Urban Commissions, a design competition set up by Dubai Design District (d3) and Dubai Culture & Arts Authority to engage with the UAE’s creative community and promote its diverse production industries. It also engages design students and professionals residing in the UAE.
As a notable symbol of the growth and maturity of the design landscape in the UAE and MENASA region, the fair will welcome the largest number of exhibitors in 2017 - 125 designers showing more than 400 works, represented by 50 exhibitors from 39 countries.
I love that Design Days serves as a catalyst to the development of design communities and becomes a launch pad for emerging designers. Hopefully we will meet some of our readers at the fair soaking up the region’s evolving design culture.
